Tutong Khatam Al-Quran in conjunction with the 30th National Day

SOME 150 people attended a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony held in conjunction with Brunei’s upcoming 30th National Day, at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong District yesterday.

Organised by the Tutong branch of the Youth and Sports Department, the ceremony was attended by Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Hj Othman Uking.

Youth groups, trainees of Brunei’s national service scheme Program Khidmat Bakti Negara, government officials and voluntary bodies also attended the event, according to a report from Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).

The function began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the Tutong District Religious Officer, Hasan Amit.

It was followed by a mass reading of Al-Quran and a doa selamat.

The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was intended to raise youth understanding and involvement in religious activities, RTB reported.

This year’s national day celebration carries the theme “Generasi Berwawasan” or “Visionary Generation”.

The Brunei national day is celebrated every February 23.
