MARINE police found 2,613 cartons of cigarettes floating on Brunei waters, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) stated in a press release yesterday.

Police found a volume of cigarettes wrapped in plastic and some strewn, floating near Pulau Bedukang and Pulau Pekilong Cina, following a call to the police 993 hotline yesterday.

The cigarettes were believed to be from a smuggling attempt, the statement read.

The contraband was submitted to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further action.

In the press release, RBPF expressed its appreciation on the prompt reporting of the incident and advised the public to report any criminal activities to protect and maintain the peace and tranquility of the country.
