TEMBURONG residents would be able to buy local varieties of rice at Nadi Utama Mini Mart following its wholesale contract signing with the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) yesterday.

The local types of rice include Laila, Pusu, Adan and Bario. One bag (10kg) of local rice costs $12.50.

In a press release from DAA, it was stated that Nadi Utama Mini Mart was selected for the sale of local rice in the district after meeting the conditions of the offer.

Production of local rice varieties increase from 1,480 tonnes in 2011 to 1,756 tonnes last year.

Representing DAA at the signing was its acting director, Hjh Khartini Hj Musa, while Hj Osman Ahad, manager of Nadi Utama Mini Mart signed on his company’s behalf.

Present as guest of honour at the signing ceremony at the DAA headquarters was Hj Saidin Salleh, acting deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
