640 join RBPF annual cross-country championship

MORE than 600 personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) joined the 2013 cross-country championship organised by its sports council yesterday.

The 640 participants were flagged off at 7am from the Stadium Hassanal Bolkiah Gadong at the RBPF’s Headquarters in Gadong.

They were divided into three categories: 3.5km, 6km and 10km.

The 10km route took them from the stadium, around the headquarters, outside the RBPF headquarters onto the road and then back to the stadium athletic track to the finish line.

There were 12 categories for males and female officers, civilian personnel, uniformed personnel and high-ranking officials.

They were also divided by age: 50 and above; 40-49; 39 and below; 35 and above; 34 and below.

The top 10 best participants for each category received medals. Overall winners of the entire day’s event was the ‘B’ branch, followed by ‘A’ branch and then branch ‘E’.

Present as guest of honour to hand over awards was the RBPF Police Commissioner Dato Seri Pahlawan Bahrin Mohd Noor.

Also presenting awards that day was the recently appointed Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Hj Mohammad Jammy Hj Mohammad Shah Al-Islam and Assistant Commissioner of Police Hj Mohd Don Hj Harith.

The RBPF in a statement issued yesterday said the championship is a way to encourage all RBPF personnel from various ranks to interact with each other.

It is also a way to identify and unearth new talent for future competitions, noted the statement issued.
