A TOTAL amount of $56,011.60 has been raised by Brunei's Humanitarian Fund for typhoon victims in the Philippines, according to a ministry statement.

The donation figure was updated yesterday after a contribution of $13,000 to the fund by oil and gas engineering company, Aker Solutions.

The donation, presented in the form of a mock cheque, was handed over at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) by Aker Solutions Project Director Harald Gulaker to the minister, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Haji Hazair Hj Abdullah.

Present to witness the handover was Director of Community Development Department (JAPEM) Hjh Misnah; Acting Director of Social Services Hj Husaini Abdullah; as well as staff members of Aker Solutions. During the event, the minister praised the generosity of the Bruneian public, and thanked Aker Solutions for their generous donation.

The new option of donation via text message to the Humanitarian Fund was announced on Monday. The public need only send a text message containing the word “BANTU” to 38111 to make a donation of $1, $5, $10, $15 or $20 (type “BANTU20” to donate $20, for example).

The public is also welcome to donate to the fund’s secretariat at the Administration and Finance Section on the second floor of the Community Development Department, or through participating banks and commercial centres nationwide.
