THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) recently held a closing ceremony for the Syababul Watan or Tunas Bangsa, a religious programme for the children of military parents.

A total of 81 participants completed the programme and received certificates on Saturday at the Penanjong Garrison in Tutong.

The certificates were handed out by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Training Institute Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel Hasmee Hj Abd Wahab.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Hasmee advised the parents and guardians in the audience to take great care of their children.

The commandant urged them to educate as well as guide the children, while protecting them from influences that could have a negative impact on their upbringing.

He also hoped the young participants would practise the teachings they have learned through the programme.

Organised by the RBAF Religious Department (JAMA’AT) in collaboration with the RBAF Counseling Centre, the Syababul Watan was conducted from December 9 to 13.

The five-day programme involved a series of religious and recreational activities such as mass prayers as well as visits to mosques and villages.

MinDef said in a press statement the aim of the programme was to instill patriotism and faith in the participants.

During the closing ceremony, the children recited verses from the Quran and performed nasyid songs for the crowd.
