HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di -Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday attended a gala dinner with ASEAN leaders, and graced a luncheon hosted by the business community.

During the luncheon, His Majesty encouraged Japan to continue its commitment in helping to realise an ASEAN community, while also welcoming views and suggestions on ways to deepen the existing cooperation and help improve the business climate.

Their willingness to embrace values and understanding of the importance of giving back to the communities in which they operate is deeply appreciated, said His Majesty, adding that it had been made possible through their strongly established roots in the ASEAN region.

In his titah, the Sultan said Japan has been instrumental in the contribution to the revival of the economy, and that the country's innovation and technological capabilities are globally acknowledged.

His Majesty also said ASEAN will always welcome its continued presence and investments in the region.

Also at the luncheon were Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other Southeast Asian leaders.

The luncheon was hosted by the Japan Business Federation and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo.

Later in the evening, His Majesty and other ASEAN leaders were treated to a gala dinner at Imperial Hotel in Tokyo following the closing of the 40th ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit.
