HM attends reception, dinner

TOKYO

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday meet the Imperial Majesty Emperor and Imperial Majesty Empress of Japan and the Japanese Prime Minister in two separate ceremonies.

The Imperial Majesty Emperor, Aikhito and Empress Michiko welcomed His Majesty at a reception ceremony along with other ASEAN leaders who are currently in Tokyo to attend the 40th ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit.

Greeting His Majesty and ASEAN leaders was the Vice Grand Master of Ceremonies, Shinozuka, who greeted the leaders at the entrance of the Imperial Palace.

His Majesty along with the ASEAN head of states and government were then led to the reception hall and were greeted there by the Foreign Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida.

Upon arrival, the Imperial Majesty Emperor and the Imperial Majesty Empress were then introduced to His Majesty and the ASEAN leaders with their respective spouses.

Later in the evening, His Majesty along with ASEAN leaders and their respective spouses were treated to a night of Japanese cuisine at the Prime Minister's Residence by the Japanese Prime Minister, His Excellency Shinzo Abe and his spouse to welcome them to Tokyo, Japan.

During the Japanese Prime Minister's welcoming remarks, he reminded the ASEAN leaders that they are partners that share a common vision and identity as well as partners that share a future where the future generation will be benefitting from the outcomes of the ASEAN-Japan relation.

Accompanying His Majesty was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng.

Earlier on, His Majesty participated in a bilateral meeting which was followed by a joint press conference with the Japanese Prime Minister, and from the meeting both countries reaffirmed their ties and expressed their interests in continued partnerships in the field of energy, education, and youth programmes.

His Majesty will be co-chairing the summit with Japan as its host this year for the 40th ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit which signifies the bilateral relations that has been established between ASEAN and Japan.
