172 complete military training
A TOTAL of 172 male recruits were celebrated in a passing out parade at the Penanjong Garrison yesterday, marking the end of their basic military training.
During the parade, Colonel (Rtd) Pg Dato Paduka Hj Azmansham Pg Hj Mohamad, permanent secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence, called on the recruits to upgrade themselves even though they have passed the training.
He said new recruits should always safeguard the good name of RBAF by following its laws and regulations, as well as to practise commendable attitude.
Recruits will also be given the opportunity to be further trained to lead specific groups and partake in assigned duties and responsibilities, not only building their military career but also contributing back to the community and the country, he added.
The permanent secretary also touched on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah at the recent National Service Scheme programme, where His Majesty said the successful development and defence of a country are attributed by the discipline of citizens, especially the youth, who will shape the future of our country.
Pg Dato Hj Azmansham concluded by congratulating the recruits of the 149th intake who were also involved in disaster relief assistance and medical trainings with armed forces from ASEAN countries and dialogue partners, led by RBAF last June.
In his foreword in the programme book, Lt Colonel Hasmee Hj Abd Wahab, commandant of RBAF Training Institute, said with the completion of the six-month basic training, the new recruits will uphold the responsibility of RBAF to defend national security and sovereignty.
The parade also saw the presentation of awards to excellent instructors and recruits of the 149th intake.
Best Platoon Sergeant was awarded to Sgt Hairullah Metassim, while Cpl Md Azrin Hj Masir received Best Male Instructor.
Abdul Shalihin Hj Abd Latip won the Best Overall Recruit and Abd Rahman Zulkefli was awarded the Best in M16A2 Rifle Shooting.
The Best in Heavy Barrel Automatic Rifle (HBAR) was awarded to Mohd Al-Amin Manab, while Mohd Nasruddin Awg Morshidi bagged the Best in Physical Training award, and Khairul Syukri Aimullah Jaffary received the Best Academic Knowledge.
The event, which was held at the Parade Square of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Training Institute (RBAF TI), saw proud parents and family members of the recruits witnessing the passing out parade yesterday morning.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was RBAF Commander Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awg Abidin, RBAF’s deputy commander, and other officials.
