Needy senior citizen gets new home

A LESS fortunate senior citizen will soon get a new house after Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) came to her assistance yesterday.

Nurhidayah Abdul Rahim, 54, is set to live in a $40,000 house in Kg Tunggulian, Belait.

According to a statement from YSHHB, she has been living in her dilapidated house with her three children.

Her financial situation was made worse when her husband died in 2005.

The new house is equipped with three bedrooms, living room, kitchen and toilet.

The construction of houses for less fortunate families is one of the foundation’s Housing Scheme projects to enhance the welfare and well-being of people in Brunei, in accordance with the policies and purposes of its establishment.

Housing assistance under the foundation are dedicated to new converts, as well as the poor and needy, the statement read.

Housing assistance to new converts was intended to provide opportunities for them to improve their standard of living, and to pursue and embrace life as a Muslim to perform the duties of Allah (SWT) in a comfortable and peaceful environment, YSHHB added in its statement.

Managing Director of YSHHB Hj Brahim Hj Ismail was present to oversee the groundbreaking ceremony of the house yesterday.
