SINGAPOREAN Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing made an official visit to the Training Camp of the National Service Programme (PKBN) at the Sports Village, the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, Berakas, yesterday.

Present to welcome him was Bruneian Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, as well as the High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Jaya Ratnam.

Also present was Permanent Secretary of the MCYS Hj Mohd Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunos and MCYS’s Senior Special Duties Officer Yahya Hj Metussin.

During the visit, Chan watched performances by the first intake of the PKBN, which included the PKBN cheer, the singing of the PKBN “Sedia Berbakti”, marching drills, displays of the traditional martial art silat and physical training.

Chan was then briefed on the PKBN’s achievements by Permanent Secretary Hj Mohd Rozan.

He also visited the Block C male trainees’ hostel before joining former trainees of the first intake of the PKBN for afternoon tea.

Chan said he was impressed with Brunei’s national service programme.

“The programme is already good. And with more people joining the programme (that) means more alumni, and I think that good alumni are most valuable out of this programme,” he said.
