MIPR distributes cool boxes to fishermen in Temburong

THE Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) through the Fisheries Department distributed cool boxes to 40 fishermen in Temburong yesterday to celebrate the 2013 Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen’s Day.

The fisheries assistance scheme was introduced last June to help fishermen boost production by providing basic needs to facilitate their operations.

Yesterday, the scheme was given in the form of ‘cool boxes ‘ to keep the freshness of the fishes in order to meet customers satisfaction and improve the market response.

The ministry also hopes that the cool boxes can help increase the income of fishermen and that they would remain activie in the industry.

Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Haji Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar was on hand to distribute the cool boxes at the Main Hall in Bangar, Temburong.

Also present at the ceremony were MIPR’s Permanent Secretary Hjh Normah Suria Hayati Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Hj Mohd Jamil Al Sufri as chairperson of the event’s organising committee, and deputy permanent secretaries Mohd Riza Dato Paduka Hj Yunos and Hjh Hasnah Ibrahim.

Prior to the distribution, a speech was delivered by the Acting Director of Fisheries Department, Abdul Halidi Mohd Salleh.

Two briefing sessions were also held on “Development of Fishing Industry” and “Handling of Fishes to Improve Quality Seafood Using Cool box”. A dialogue session was also held.
