Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abdul Wahab, advisor to the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA), has made outstanding contributions to the development of relations between Japan and Brunei.

This was said by the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Kenichi Suganuma during the presentation of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abdul Wahab, advisor of the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA) yesterday.

The conferral of the decorations is an affirmation of the deepening ties between Japan and Brunei.

During an interview with The Brunei Times, Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah expressed his deepest contentment in receiving the award.

“I am very happy and honoured to be bestowed the award by the Emperor of Japan. They said it’s something you get at the end of your career and you have to be over 60,’’ he joked.

He said that it is important to have the young people take part in the association’s activity.

“This award is something I’m very proud of on behalf of BJFA and BJFA-UBD. The approach for BJFA-UBD now is that we really need to use the bilateral initiative to develop our people. We always believe that at the end of the day, the future lies in the hands of youth not only in Brunei but also in Japan,’’ he said.
