THE two-day seminar on the progress of the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) ideology under His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s reign concluded yesterday.

The Deputy Head of the Brunei Historical Society (PESEBAR), Dr Hj Mohd Yusop Hj Damit, in his speech during the closing ceremony said that the seminar had been successful in exploring the historical, social and economic study of Brunei’s national ideology.

“Guided by the seminar’s theme, which is ‘Membangun Negara Berteraskan Konsep Melayu Islam Beraja’ (Developing the Country based on the Malay Islamic Monarchy), the presenters of the working papers have tried to dissect the process of development of the country that has been achieved throughout the rule of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam,” said Dr Hj Mohd Yusop. He said that the national ideology has managed to bring the country towards peace and harmony in the daily lives of the people of the country.

“The physical development of a country without spiritual elements based on religion and strong local values would bring forth an empty development that would invite endless social ills. Our country is definitely on the right path seeing that our development is hand in hand with a spiritual development that is based on the concept of MIB.”

In total, 11 working papers were presented by 11 presenters comprising three cabinet ministers and eight scholars. Each one discussed the progress that has been made in different aspects of the country based on MIB.

The final day of the seminar commemorating the 30 years of PESEBAR saw the presentation of five papers during the closing ceremony which was then followed by a presentation of certificates by the head of PESEBAR, Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Yahya Hj Ibrahim, to the presenters and participants of the course.
