Hundreds join Rimba walkathon

MORE than 500 people participated in a walkathon to mark World Town and Country Planning Day at the Rimba II Secondary School.

The Department of Town and Country Planning organised the walk as part of efforts to create a healthy living environment for residents.

A press statement said apart from raising awareness of healthy living within the community of “The National Housing Plan Kampong Rimba Phase 5”, the event also aimed to showcase past and existing developments in the area.

A tree-planting was also held after the 3km walkathon.

The Ministry of Development also hoped to spread the initiative towards a green environment in all school levels and to help mitigate climate change.

Present at the walkathon was Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, as well as students and staff of the secondary school.

World Town and Country Planning Day is commemorated every November 8 to promote and recognise the role of planning in building liveable communities.

The annual event was initiated in 1949 by a university professor, and is observed in 30 countries on four continents.
