SOUTHEAST Asian officials will gather in Brunei this week for the 48th Meeting of the Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI), said a press statement from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday.

The Committee on Culture and Information is one of ASEAN’s oldest institutions.

The meeting, slated for tomorrow until Friday, will take place at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.

Senior Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Shireen Mustapha will chair the meeting on Wednesday.

“The meeting will be preceded by a working dinner tonight and separate sub-committee meetings on Tuesday,” the statement added.

The ministry’s Director of Arts and Culture Division Norsham Yahya will chair the Sub-committee on Culture meeting, while Mawardi Mohammed, Director of the Information Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, will chair the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Information.

The Committee on Culture and Information includes representatives of various government ministries in ASEAN, as well as radio and television broadcasters, museums, libraries and national archives.

It was established in 1978, the same year that ASEAN foreign ministers agreed to set up an ASEAN Cultural Fund to preserve cultural ASEAN heritage and foster greater cultural interaction and awareness of Southeast Asian cultures, the statement added.
