TEACHERS and officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) have banded together to collect books for sale, with proceeds to be donated to less fortunate students.

The charity book sale, organised by the Community Partnership Committee at the MoE, had members collecting and donating used books, ranging from academic to recreational books.

The books are sold in all four districts.

In an interview with The Brunei Times, a member of the committee who was seen at the booth located at The Airport Mall, Hj Mustapa Hj Masri, said they had collected over 2,000 books in the Brunei-Muara district in a span of a week in anticipation of the reading campaign.

“Each district collected their own used books for the sales and is selling them at their respective district. These books are still in good conditions, and the price range is from $1 to $5. As a result from the sales, the proceeds will be used to help students who are in need of school supplies.”

The Community Partnership Committee book sale were only held yesterday at the Tutong and Belait districts. However, the used books sale at The Airport Mall will continue until Monday at the Brunei-Muara district, while book sale at the Bumiputera building in Bangar ends today.

Besides providing financial assistance to less fortunate students in terms of school fees and hostel accommodation, the committee also assists by donating computers, glasses, examination fees, transportation and other supplies.

Non-government organisations and interested members of the public can also assist needy students by donating to the secretariat of the Community Partnership Committee.
