PREPARATIONS are well under way for the Eighth National Youth Day with a rehearsal held yesterday at the Inddor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The National Youth Day, which is annually celebrated in Brunei on August 1 was postponed to November 20 to respect the fasting month of Ramadhan.

National Youth Day was first held in 2006, initiated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as a way to appreciate and celebrate the contribution of youths, and to motivate them in their efforts towards national development.

On this day, awards will be presented to outstanding individuals and associations in recognition of their work in youth and national development.

The National Youth Day also serves as a platform for youths to gather and exchange thoughts and opinions, especially those that are related towards the country’s national development.

It also aimed to encourage these youths to do meaningful activities together, fostering good relationships and integration amongst them.

This year, the exhibition will focus on entrepreneurship, career, training and volunteerism.

Various activities to observe National Youth Day would be included and amongst them will be the National Youth Day Run 2013, which will be held on December 1 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Themed ‘Youth, Free of Smoke’, the run aims to inspire youths to lead a healthy lifestyle and be active in sports.
