Sg Buloh, Mentiri vote for village head
A TOTAL of 168 Kg Sungai Buloh, Mukim Mentiri residents cast their votes whether they agreed for a sole candidate to be the new head village yesterday.
The votes cast was to determine whether Pg Hj Ismail Pg Ibrahim@PA Rahim, the sole candidate for the position will be considered and supported before his bid to become the new village head is forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further processing.
Pg Hj Ismail received 144 votes out of the 168 and as a result, he will be put under consideration for the position by the ministry.
The number of eligible voters for Kg Sungai Buloh was 888.
Pg Hj Ismail undergone various screening and interviews to determine that he was a suitable candidate, even before the voting was held.
Fifty seven year old Pg Hj Ismail was a retired Museum Services Officer, under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
He was nominated by Pg Hj Matassan Pg Hj Mohiddin, and supported by Hj Matali Hj Momin and Pg Hj Rosman Pg Hj Shahbuddin.
Overseeing the voting was officials from the Brunei-Muara District Office.
The position for Kg Sungai Buloh village chief was held by Pg Hj Ahmad Pg Omar since July 4, 1998. He retired in March 19, 2009.
Pg Hj Ahmad was reappointed as village head on a monthly basis since March 19,2009 and will remain in the position until a new village head is appointed.
Brunei-Muara District Office, Hj Jamain Momin said the position was advertised in Pelita Brunei, the government’s official newspaper, in June and July 2012.
From the advert, one nomination was received.
Prior to the voting, the Brunei-Muara District Office emphasised that eligible voters in Kg Sungai Buloh must cast their rights as voters, without doubts or influence from others.
“This is important because the village head will be the eye and ears of the government and the residents, who will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the welfare, safety and interests of all,” he said.
With Pg Hj Ismail securing the majority votes, his bid to be the new Kg Sungai Buloh head village will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further processing.
