Khatam Al-Quran marks ITB convocation

SOME 35 students from the first intake of the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) local undergraduate degree programmes and 11 new students for 26th intake HND programme participated in Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, yesterday.

The ceremony at Universiti Brunei Darussalam mosque was held in conjunction with ITB’s Convocation 2013 scheduled for November 28.

The ceremony yesterday was officiated by Acting Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Hj Yusoff Hj Ismail. Also present was his spouse Datin Hjh Samsiah Hj Abdul Rahman.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour and followed by the recitation of surahs by the participants.

A Takhtim prayer was also recited and led by ITB student Saidatul Faizzah Sahari followed by khatam doa by Mughnii Hj Muhammad Kassim who had completed his Bachelor of Science in Internet Computing.

After the prayers a Dikir Marhaban, led by Miftah Haziq Hj Zulaiehi, was performed by the students.

After the ceremony, Dato Hj Yusoff presented certificates and souvenirs to the participants. A special doa selamat was then read by Ustaz Hj Jupri Hj Hidup, the UBD Mosque officer who later led the mass Asar prayer.

The ITB Convocation 2013 and the installation of the Pro-Chancellor will be held on November 28 at the International Convention Centre.

A total of 62 graduates from the first intake of the ITB local undergraduate degree programmes along with 368 HND graduates from Intake 26 are expected to take part in the momentous and special ceremony.

ITB was upgraded to university category in 2008 and began offering undergraduate degree programmes in areas of engineering, business and computing in 2009.
