Go-kart race set for Nov 17

A GO-KART race will be held on November 17 to commemorate the 43rd year anniversary of the renaming Bandar Seri Begawan from Bandar Brunei.

The race, organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, Ministry of Home Affairs is aimed at enlivening the capital.

Brunei Town was renamed Bandar Seri Begawan on October 4, 1970.

The main race will take place in the afternoon of November 17 with two categories: Final Novice and Final rotax 125cc.

The race for Novice category will kick off at 9am.

Meanwhile, a practice run will be held from 4pm to 5.45pm and 8pm to 10pm the day before (on November 16).

The Go-kart racing track will be along a section of McArthur road and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien road.

Members of the public are welcomed to witness the race as well as during the practice session.

To further enliven the celebration, visitors will be able to browse and purchase items from street hawkers beginning from 9am to 10pm on November 16 and 17. The street hawkers set up their stalls alongt Jalan Pretty and Jalan Pemancha.

Application forms (for ‘street hawkers’) are available at the receptionist counter, at the ground floor of Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department in Jln Kumbang Pasang.

A bazaar will also be set up at the Royal Wharf, Bandar Seri Begawan. For those interested to participate in the bazaar, application forms are available at Sunlit Sdn Bhd.

A cultural performance in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will also be organised on November 16.

Several welfare bodies including SMARTER Brunei and Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education will also take part in the celebration as part of their fund-raising efforts.

To ensure the success of the celebration and safety of visitors and racers, members of the public are requested to comply with instructions from the Royal Brunei Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department, paramedic and volunteers.
