UNISSA, Cairo varsity sign MoU

UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) renewed its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cairo University yesterday.

The memorandum includes research cooperation, student and academic staff mobility between the two universities and a student exchange programme.

UNISSA Assistant Rector Pg Anak Dr Hj Amiruddin Alam Shah Pg Anak Hj Ismail signed the agreement with Dr Mohamed Saleh Tawfiq Abuelhassan, representing the president of Cairo University at the UNISSA Administrative Building yesterday.

Dr Abuelhassan said most UNISSA students who attended Cairo University in 2009/2010 are still in contact with the university’s lecturers through the social media.

Meanwhile, a UNISSA representative, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Brunei Times there is a Bruneian PhD student currently studying at the university.

Touching on the unrest in Egypt, the representative said the welfare and safety of students would be accessed before any plans were initiated. Cairo University, which was established over 100 years ago, has 27 faculties and institutes including law, languages, Arabic culture, mass communications, economics and political science.

Yesterday’s event started with the recital of Surah al-Fatihah by Dr Arman Hj Asmad, dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin.

Bearing witness to the signing was Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Hj Yussof Hj Ismail, and Permanent Secretary of Higher Education and UBD Vice-Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi, and principal officers from UNISSA.
