THE public are invited to join a walkathon this November 5 to mark the new Hijrah year 1435.

The walkathon, to be held at Kg Penapar Mosque, is organised by the Tutong Religious Affairs Office together with the Tutong Mosque Religious Affairs Office, as well as the Kg Tanjong Maya and Kg Penapar Mosque Takmir committees.

At a press conference held yesterday in Tutong, the district Religious Affairs Office said that more than 500 participants are expected to participate in the walkathon, which will start from the Kg Tanjong Maya Mosque and finish at the Kg Penapar Mosque.

Tutong Mosque Religious Affairs Officer, Pg Ibrahim Pg Mohd Yussof, who conducted the press conference said that apart from being a good way to remember the pilgrimage of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Madinah to Mekah, the event helps to foster better relationships among the Muslim residents in the Tutong district, and to instil a spirit of cooperation to help orphans.

It also helps to encourage the public to develop healthy lifestyles through regular exercise, he added.

Participants as well as members of the public who wish to make donations will be able to do so on the event day. Thirty per cent of the proceeds will be donated to orphans funds, while the remainder will go to the district mosque committee for Takmir activities.

Other activities namely Jawi writing and colouring contests for children under 12-years of age will also be held on the event day.
