Their Majesties, members of Royal Family attend ‘Berbedak’
HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha graced the Majlis Berbedak (powdering ceremony) of two brides, Dhau’iyah Abdullah and Mas’udah Abdullah at Dewan Indera Kayangan, The Empire Hotel and Country Club, last night.
The Majlis Berbedak is one of several ceremonies to mark the wedding celebrations in Brunei Darussalam. Previously, the Majlis Menerima Tanda Pertunangan and Akad Nikah (solemnisation of the marriage) between Dhau’iyah Abdullah and Ak Abu Bakaruddin Shah Dinny Pg Hj Kamaruddin, was performed on October 31, while similar ceremonies for Mas’udah Abdullah and Ak Hj Muhammad Ali-Yusrin Pg Dato Paduka Hj Sani took place on November 1.
More than 500 guests came to witness the Majlis Berbedak of the two brides.
Also attending the ceremony were HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, HRH Paduka Seri Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Sarah, HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, HRH Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hjh Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hjh Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hjh Masna, HRH Princess Hjh Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam, and other members of the Royal Family.
Among the guests and foreign envoys present at the ceremony were Pengiran-Pengiran Cheterias, cabinet ministers, and family members.
The ceremony began with a recital of the Dikir Marhaban.
His Majesty and Her Majesty then proceeded to the stage where the two brides were seated against the white backdrop.
Their Majesties were the first to perform the berbedak, which is sprinkling of scented water onto the palms of Dhau’iyah and Mas’udah, respectively.
Other members of the royal family followed suit.
To bless the ceremony, a doa selamat was then read by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz Juned. The _Majlis Bersanding _and thanksgiving prayer will take place today.
