Prostitution: Police raid uncovers nine women

NINE foreign women were arrested for suspected prostitution during a police raid on two hotels yesterday.

The Anti-Vice Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force raided the hotels in Gadong and in Kiulap at 9am, following a public tip-off, according to a press statement.

The raid was authorised by a letter from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ Department of Community Development, under the Women and Children Protection Act. Under Section 294A of the Penal Code, the first offence is punishable by a fine of no less than $500 and not exceeding $5,000, as well as imprisonment of one year.
