THE Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) held a forum on Islamic banking and finance to enlighten its students and staff on the importance of finance in accordance with Syarak (Islamic Laws).

Some 300 participants attended the forum held in conjunction with KUPU SB’s third convocation ceremony.

Themed “Sistem Kewangan Islam: Keunggulan dan Keberkatannya” (The Islamic finance system: its excellence and blessing), the forum was jointly organised with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), with a panel of three speakers talking of the importance and benefits of financing from the Islamic perspective.

The three speakers included Assistant Lecturer at the Syariah Faculty Waiduri Hj Mohd Ali, Manager of Syariah Department at BIBD Hjh Hanifah Jenan, and Assistant Manager at the Syariah Department of BIBD Muhammad Takzimallah Hj Ahmad Sanuddin.

In her welcoming remarks, Deputy Dean of the KUPU SB Syariah Faculty Pg Hjh Noorwidayawati Pg Haji Metussin highlighted that the Islamic financing system is regarded as a balanced and assuring economic system that can be carried out in a comprehensive and interest-free (riba) manner.

She expressed hopes that the forum would act as an avenue for participants and members of the public, particularly students, to open up their mind and widen their perspective so they may not be easily influenced by finance systems that do not adhere to Islamic laws.

The forum, being held for the second time, has become increasingly important as the system and its achievements are relatively recent. The forum is one of many activities held to clarify and explain the current challenges faced by the system along with its available solutions.

Present as the guest of honour at yesterday’s forum was Chief Syarie Prosecutor Hj Johar Hj Muhammad.
