TEARS of joy greeted the second group of Haj pilgrims upon their arrival at Brunei International Airport yesterday as families and friends were reunited after being apart for a month.

Darussalam Holdings led the congregation of 261 pilgrims that included six medical officers.

A prayer was read by Pg Hj Hafizuddin Pg Hj Bakar, an officer at the Mosque Affairs Department, to express gratitude for their safe return and completion of the pilgrimage.

One of the pilgrims, Hjh Sahraeny Hj Hamzah, who performed the Haj with her parents and brother, said the pilgrimage had been an overwhelming experience.

Alhamdulillah, I feel calm and grateful to have been able to perform the Haj this year. The feeling is indescribable. I am really grateful. There were a lot of challenges when I was there but everything went smoothly,” she said.

Hjh Siti Norhuzainayati Hj Abd Ghani, one of the religious officials tasked by Darussalam Holdings with accompanying the pilgrims, said this had been the longest time she had ever been apart from her husband and children.

“I feel glad and happy to be able to be with my family again. The feeling of seeing my children is so overwhelming,” she said.

When asked about her experience as a guide, she said she was relieved that everything had gone smoothly.

“Alhamdulillah, in carrying out my job there, the pilgrims were all healthy and were able to perform their duties in performing their Haj well. The pilgrims were pleased and that is what matters,” she said.
