A FILIPINO man was fined $210 by the Magistrates’ Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to possessing untaxed alcoholic beverages.

Raniel Abayon Flugencio, 36, was found to have 24 cans of beer and a bottle of vodka in his possession when customs officers stopped and searched his car at the vicinity of the traffic light near Chung Hwa School on June 15.

Raniel admitted during the investigation that the alcoholic beverages belonged to him. He had bought them from a Filipino woman named Maria at Tamu Kianggeh for $72 before his arrest.

Following the sentencing yesterday, Flugencio paid all of the fines. The court also further ordered the contraband to be forfeited to the state.
