Raya aid for senior citizens, needy

TEN destitute families and senior citizen living in Mukim Sengkurong received donations from the Sengkurong Mukim Consultative Council (MPM) Amal Ramadhan delegation yesterday.

The recipients were from Kampung Lugu, Kampung Katimahar, Kampung Sengkurong and Kampung Jerudong.

In a press statement issued, the Mukim and Village Institution Division and Community Complaints Unit under the Brunei-Muara District Office said that the recipients are those receiving welfare aid from Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) and the Community Development Department (JAPEM).

It is a continuous effort by the Brunei-Muara District Office made via the Sengkurong MPM with the cooperation from the private sector towards caring for the welfare of the underprivileged groups in the Brunei-Muara district.

Destitute families in the country will continue to be cared for whether or not they receive aid from the government sector or private sector, the press release explained.

Other than helping in lessening the burden of the destitute families and senior citizens, the donations was also to enliven the atmosphere for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration.

The Sengkurong MPM Amal Ramadhan delegation consisted of the Penghulu of Mukim Sengkurong Hj Musa Hj Tahir, Village Head of Kampung Lugu/Katimahar Salim Adi and Village Head of Kampung Jerudong Hj Mohd Rais Hj Ishak.

The delegation, who visited the houses of the families, also included YMRM owner Ramesh Jiwatram Bhawrani who made contributions to the donated items.

The donations presented were basic food necessities such as rice and cooking oil.

Cartons of soft drinks were also donated along with cash.

Presenting the donations to the 10 families was Dato Paduka Sa Bali Abas, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
