Less fortunate families enjoy early festive cheer, spirit
THE joy of raya came early for two less fortunate Kuala Belait families in Sungai Liang as Total E&P Borneo BV and Total E&P Deep Offshore Borneo BV in cooperation with fmBrunei Consultancy & Training Services presented donations and also organised a sprucing up operation at their respective respective residences.
Over the month of Ramadhan, Lamaniah Siput has been the reciepient of a chartible contritubtion by Total under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) intiative.
Lamaniah Siput, who works as a cleaner for BLNG was delighted to receive the contribution.
Her family received a new front door, a sofa set, curtains and a full outdoor paint job in addition to a Raya hamper and a monetary donation.
The 51-year-old said, "This is the first time I have received such a donation. I am very grateful for their generosity and I am now looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya even more so now that my home has been redone."
At another house in Kampung Keluyoh, 76-year-old Ibrahim Jait said that he appreciated the gesture. His floors are now covered up with new paddings, he added that his house looks even better with a fresh lick of peach paint on the whole exterior of the house.
"I've lived here since 1967 and it has been a while since we actually fixed up the place. It would really look good when relatives come to visit during Raya," said Ibrahim.
He said that living with his wife, daughter and seven grandchildren,"things can be hard at times", especially when the family still uses a generator for electricity.
Once a "locomotive railway driver" for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), he explained that the family hopes to save up more money so that his daughter may build a new house nearby his residence as three rooms is a little confined.
"I want to express my gratitude to those who helped me and my family, especially during this fasting month," said Ibrahim.
The CSR programme by Total hopes to continue its quest in helping underprivileged families by lending a helping hand and donating financial assistance and other basic neccessities.
