Universitas Indonesia confers degree on Sultan
HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday held talks with Indonesian President Dato Laila Utama Dr Hj Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on a number of issues including security.
During the meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, His Majesty and Yudhoyono exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern, as well as discussed various efforts to further strengthen relations between the countries.
His Majesty's Government recently granted its Southeast Asian neighbour two Waspada-class patrol ships.
The Jakarta Post yesterday quoted Indonesian Presidential Special Staff for International Relations Teuku Faizasyah as saying that Yudhoyono conveyed his gratitude for the granting of two Waspada Navy ships.
"We gave assurances that the ships would be used to improve security in the region," The Jakarta Post quoted Faiza as saying.
Before leaving for the Presidential Palace, the monarch met with Professor Dr Ir Purmomo Yusgiantoro, Indonesia's Minister of Defence.
Also present at the meeting were State Legislative Council Speaker Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awang Isa Pehin Datu Perdana Menteri Dato Laila Utama Hj Awang Ibrahim, Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Apong, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng and Brunei's Ambassador to Indonesia Dato Paduka Brigadier General (Rtd) Hj Mahmud Hj Saidin.
