597 individuals conferred medals

HIS Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Deputy Sultan, yesterday presented a further 597 medals to civil servants and private sector employees for their services and contributions to the country.

A total of 1,758 people have received medals during the three-day investiture ceremony that concluded yesterday.

The medals were conferred with the consent and on behalf of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The recipients of the honorary awards at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday promised to work harder following the recognition of their hard work.

Dk Normah Pg Hj Osman, who has worked for 34 years at Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) was one of the Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB), or Excellent Service Medal recipients yesterday.

"It makes me very proud, to receive the medal after all these years of working," she said. Dk Normah, who is Royal Brunei Airlines' station manager at the Brunei International Airport, added that receiving the medal has also rejuvenated her enthusiasm for work.

"I would like to maintain my work performance and set an example to my staff and colleagues," she said.

Hjh Aminah Hj Momin, acting director at the Language and Literature Bureau, was another government official who received a medal yesterday.

"I am extremely happy because after serving the government for more than 20 years today, receiving this Pingat Kerja Lama (Long Service Medal) is being given recognition by His Majesty," she said in an interview following yesterday's investiture ceremony.

This year will be 29 years in the government service for Hjh Aminah, who said that receiving the award will serve to further motivate her work.

"I will strive to perform even better for the Government of His Majesty," she said.

A number of uniformed personnel were also awarded for their long service with the government. Among them was Deputy Station Officer Mohd Mozliano Abdullah who was grateful to His Majesty for the award. "SyukurAlhamdulillah that it was granted because our service ends at the end of this year," he said.

"We are very proud to receive this because it is an acknowledgement of our service, and thank you (to) His Majesty and His Majesty's Government," he said.

A total of 287 were presented with the Excellent Service Medal, while a further 310 members of the civil service were awarded the Long Service Medal.
