HRH attends OIC ministers meet

HIS Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade arrived at Tajikistan's Dushanbe International Airport yesterday to attend the 37th Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Foreign Ministers Meeting.

The 37th OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting is expected to discuss political and economic issues as well as combating international terrorism.

Themed "Shared Vision of a More Secure and Prosperous Islamic World", the meeting will be held from May 10-20 at Somon Palace in Dushanbe.

Last night, His Royal Highness attended an informal dinner hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Homrokhon Zarifi in honour of the head of delegations attending the conference.

Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Zariah, His Royal Highness was greeted on arrival at the airport by First Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Dr Abdullah Yuldashev.Brunei became the 45th member of the OIC on January 15, 1984 and since then has provided the Sultanate with a platform to strengthen its political and economic ties with the other 57 member states that includes Turkey, Oman and now Tajikistan.

One of the aims of Brunei's membership in the OIC is to work closely with the other members in promoting Islamic interests and values for the benefit of Muslims.

Brunei has also made voluntary financial contributions to various OIC funds, such as the Islamic Solidarity Fund, the Al-Quds Fund, the Afghanistan Trust Fund and the Sierra Leone Trust Fund - Amir Noor
