His Majesty meets with the pilgrims

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to meet with this year's batch of Haj pilgrims at the Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

A total of 766 intending Haj pilgrims including 33 health and medical officershad an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Meanwhile, in another section, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah in meeting with the female intending pilgrims.

After greeting the royal family, the intending pilgrims were each given a bag of ihram (worn during the pilgrimage to the plains of Arafah) for the males and telekong (female prayer attire) for the women upon exiting the room.

Earlier, the intending pilgrims had performed the mass Zuhur prayer that was led by Ustaz Hj Abdul Rahman Mahmuda, a religious officer at Istana Nurul Iman.

It was followed by a special Sunat Hajat prayer and doa (supplication) to seek the blessings of Allah (SWT) for the pilgrims who will be in the holy city of Mekah for a month.The Haj pilgrims have been divided into four batches.

The first batch departing for Mekah today to perform the fifth and final pillar of Islam.

and is expected to return to Brunei Darussalam on December 2. Meanwhile, the remaining three batches of intending pilgrims will be flying between November 4 and 6, from the Brunei International Airport.
