Minister checks development works in Mukim Ukong

THE Minister of Home Affairs yesterday conducted a working visit to several villages in Mukim Ukong in Tutong District to take a closer look at its infrastructural development and resolve issues raised by concerned residents.
Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof and his entourage met with heads of villages and sub-district heads to interact and obtain first-hand information on the progress of Mukim Ukong and activities organised by its Consultative Council.
The minister said that the working visit will hopefully foster ties among the residents in the village and officers in the ministry and encourage the mukim and village consultative councils to conduct future activities and programmes that will help in the economical development of Mukim Ukong.
He also suggested to members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Council that youths of the various villages be encouraged to actively participate in community activities.
The working visit was also an opportunity for the minister to have a better understanding of the quality of life led by residents in Mukim Ukong and resolve issues of concern raised by the residents.
The minister, accompanied by the ministry's permanent secretary, Hj Mawardi Hj Abdullah and the Tutong District Officer, Hj Idris Hj Md Ali and several officials from various departments under the ministry made their first stop at the Kg Tanjong Maya Community Hall.
The entourage then proceeded to visit Head of Kg Ukong Md Nendaroh Datu Kornia Diraja Gadong's residence to obtain the latest updates and feedbacks from the village.
The minister also visited the residences of the Head Village of Kg Bukit and the Sub-district Head of Mukim Ukong and examined the state of community halls in Kg Bukit and Kg Long Mayan.
At Kg Bukit, the minister received a briefing by the village head, Muhd Shadiqin Abdullah Janjam on the developments of the paddy fields as well as feedbacks and issues raised by the paddy plantation owners there.
Along the way, the entourage also visited two house projects of two impoverished families which are underway for completion. The community project is an effort by the Tutong District Office to help impoverished families who are unable to repair or build a new house and is also one of the strategic plans of the Ministry of Home Affairs which are implemented through the district offices to carry out these community projects for needy families.
The visit ended at Kg Bukit Udal where the Minister visited the proposed recreational park at Anak Pulau Bukit Kukub which is also under development.
