A KEY handover ceremony for the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) housing scheme for Dayang Kasum Ahmad was held yesterday in Kg Maraburong.

On hand to present the keys to the 52-year-old single parent was the director of YSHHB, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud.

The construction of the house was aimed at providing opportunity for those living in destitute to continue on living in a convenient, clean and safe environment, thus creating a peaceful and harmonious family life.

At the same time, this was also aimed at raising the welfare and harmony among citizens.

The ceremony for the foundation laying of the housing aid scheme for Dayang Kasum was held on July 6, a project which costs $31,000 with a concept of two rooms, a living room and a kitchen.

Among those present to witness the event were the Kg Kupang village chief, government officers and YSHHB senior officers.

According to a previous report, Dayang Kasum and her children had been living in a small shabby hut in Kg Terunjing Lama for 12 years.

The conditions of the hut placed the mother and her children at a health risk everyday due to the hot climate and rain which caused the hut to be damp, smelly and dirty.

Through her successful application for the YSHHB housing scheme, Dayang Kasum was eventually granted a home. (SHS1)
