Top marks for trivia

A STUDENT from Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) emerged the winner at a recent regional trivia competition, outranking some 943 students from Brunei and Malaysia.

Andrew Koay Yi Ji won in the Brunei-Sabah category of the Chinese Inforama, which was held in 36 different sites.

The Brunei-Malaysian division of the Chinese Inforama made its debut in the sultanate on July 21 at Chung Hwa Middle School, Kuala Belait.

Three chinese secondary schools from the sultanate sent five candidates each to the competition which tested their knowledge of current affairs.

An awards presentation ceremony was held on Monday at Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital, attended by the organiser's representative, Luke Lau, CHMS principal Kho Guik Lan and CHMS' teacher-in-charge Wong Yee Mee.

Kenneth Oh, a CHMS teacher, said the competition was initially held in Malaysia and had only this year been expanded to Borneo.

CHMS principal Kho Guik Lan expressed satisfaction at Andrew's achievement, adding that CHMS students were encouraged to participate in the annual contest.
