THE sporting spirit was strong as more than 60 members of the Brunei Association of Hotels (BAH), under its sports and social club, organised its fifth bowling tournament yesterday.

Held at the Megastrike Bowl Sdn Bhd in Airport Mall, Berakas, the friendly tournament was officially opened by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Wardi Hj Mohd Ali, as the guest of honour.

President of BAH, Abdul Rani Siteh, in his welcoming remarks, said: “As an NGO (for hotels), we play our important role in spreading the awareness of our hotel industry, and attract youth on the employment (opportunities) in this industry.”

He added: “BAH is also planning to work together with Brunei Tourism in promoting the country through Bandarku Ceria — Car Free Day by organising activities, such as selling (local) products and market tourism products, especially at Bandar Seri Begawan.”

The tournament is also part of BAH’s initiatives to foster good relationship amongst hotels in the country, especially between its staff members.

“BAH has lined up several activities, such as food carving competition, cake flower arrangement and centrepiece, Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration and blood donation.”

Hanadi Hambali of StarLodge told The Brunei Times that the event is a great way for the hoteliers to meet each other and strengthen their friendship.

According to the press statement, the participating teams are from The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Orchid Garden Hotel, D’Anggerek Service Apartment, Radisson Hotel, Centrepoint Hotel, Rizqun International Hotel, Brunei Hotel, The Capital Residence Suites, Star Lodge Hotel, Palm Garden Hotel, and former committees of BAH.
